In a heart-wrenching incident in Kiambu, a young woman’s life was cut short following a violent altercation with her boyfriend. Grace Wanjiku Mburu, aged 24, succumbed to her injuries on January 20 at the Kiambu Level Five Hospital, where she was taken after suffering from severe bleeding. The tragic event unfolded when Grace and her partner, Clinton Njoroge, became embroiled in a physical confrontation at their home. During the altercation, Grace sustained a fatal stab wound to her head.
Neighbors, alarmed by the commotion, alerted the authorities, who swiftly responded and transported Grace to Imani Hospital. She was later referred to the larger Kiambu hospital, but sadly, she was declared dead upon arrival. Njoroge was subsequently apprehended and is currently being held at the Kasarani Police Station while investigations are ongoing.
An autopsy is pending to determine the exact cause of Grace’s death, and the police are treating the case as a murder investigation. Grace leaves behind a three-year-old child, now orphaned by this senseless act of violence.
The incident has sparked outrage and calls for action against the rising tide of gender-based violence in the country. Njeri wa Migwi, co-founder of Usikimye, a Kenyan nonprofit dedicated to assisting victims of gender-based violence, expressed her dismay at the situation. “The problem is the normalization of gender-based violence and the rhetoric that, yes, women are disposable,” she lamented. The tragic demise of Grace Wanjiku Mburu serves as a grim reminder of the urgent need to address and eradicate the scourge of violence against women in society.
